5-8 Activities

5-8 Activities

These activities for Marine Art were updated in late 2008 and early 2009, along with the Learning Results.

Ideas to try....

English Language Arts

Descriptive language can be a focus of writing assignments. Brainstorm adjectives while looking at a painting.

Math

Studying maritime paintings offers opportunities to look at ratio and proportion, using measurement to determine dimensions of vessel components as compared to the real thing.

History

History is communicated through art. Some paintings depict historic events, while others were created for different reasons. Try looking at a painting in terms of how many historical concepts can be deduced, just by visual observation. Learn the real story of the event shown, and decide how well the painting tells the story. Paintings also show technology of the times and differences in technology among different cultures.

Arts

There are expanded opportunities for creating art as students progress through school.
