Asian "Roly Poly" Doll

This papier mache toy belonged to Anne Atherton Starrett, daughter of Captain Henry Atherton Starrett of Belfast, and his wife Ellen Mary Cutter Starrett. The painted toy came from Hong Kong or another Asian port, when Anne was a child.

Japanese Rickshaw Model

Japanese rickshaw and two dolls, one being a rickshaw puller and the other a woman passenger. These were brought back to Maine by Capt. Everett G. Staples, master of the ship Robert L. Belknap from 1884-1896. The Belknap was a Rockport, Maine built and owned vessel, launched in 1884 for the deep water bulk carrying trades.

Doll from Chefoo, China

Male doll dressed in several layers of clothing: vest, long coat , shirt, shoes and pantaloons. All clothing is hand stitched. Head and hands are ceramic and painted.

Chinese Jackstraws

Set of 34 ivory Chinese jackstraws used as a toy by Kate Dow when a young girl. Probably brought back from China by her mother's brother, Capt. Oscar Eaton.
